<p>According to an article published recently in The Guardian, Orthorexics have rigid rules about eating. They can refuse to eat certain foods citing frivolous issues. It all starts with refusing to eat salt, sugar caffeine, alcohol and dairy foods and gradually encompasses food items that have been produced using pesticides or herbicides. They even refuse to eat foods in which artificial flavors have been added or other additives have been used.</p>
<p>Experts say that if you are trying to avoid food items on flimsy grounds, you are actually suffering from a mental disorder, and there is something basically wrong with you. Experts warn that this obsession with what is good and what is bad may lead to malnutrition as these patients end up eating little and have very little choices of foods for them.</p>

All those who are eating junk foods and other food items that are detrimental to health are being considered normal, and people who are conscious, trying to avoid poor quality foods are being termed as mental patients. According to the experts, if a person is looking for good foods the entire tie, he will suffer from malnutrition. And all those who are eating junk foods are supposed to be getting all the nutrients. This is as crazy a logic I have ever come across.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, if the experts are suggesting that craving for good foods, if it remains confined to safe limits is ok, then we can digest it.</p>

Students at Vanderbilt  University medical Center have compiled results from their study which clearly indicate the impact of lifestyle factors and various diseases.</p>
<p><a href="http://yourhealthyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/images4.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-44" title="Live longer" src="http://yourhealthyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/images4.jpg" alt="Live longer" width="275" height="183" /></a>In comparison to people who maintain a healthy lifestyle without cigarettes and alcohol, those who smoked and consumed alcohol had reduced mortality and were also prone to many diseases. Their results clearly show that the intake of fresh vegetables and fruits led to a prevention of diseases and a long healthy life. It only takes a slight modification in the lifestyle, coupled with leaving the addiction of smoking and alcohol, to have a increased lifespan free of diseases.</p>
<p>Unhealthy lifestyle factors have been identified as smoking, excessive alcohol intake, lack of workouts, poor dietary intake, reliance on junk food and exposure to tobacco smoke. These factors were found to be directly related to chronic diseases and reduced mortality.</p>
<p>The researchers studied a group of 71,243 Chinese women between the ages of 40 and 70 over a period of 9 years. During this period, there were 2860 deaths, 1351 dying from cancer and 775 because of heart problems.<a href="http://yourhealthyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/images-3.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-45" title="Eat healthy" src="http://yourhealthyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/images-3.jpg" alt="Eat healthy" width="254" height="199" /></a></p>
<p>These women were divided into groups with each receiving a score depending on her lifestyle. Zero indicated least healthy and 5 indicated most healthy lifestyle. It was found that women who score high on the healthy lifestyle were far less likely to develop chronic diseases and also lived longer than those who had poor lifestyle scores.</p>

They say that their study shows that there is a great need for further research into the role of this wonder vitamin in preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.</p>
<p>Babak Hooshmad, who is a doctoral student at the department of neurobiology at Karolinska institute, says that elderly people have been found to have very low levels of vitamin B12. Those who consume this vitamin regularly are at a lower risk of developing any memory loss at an elderly age.</p>
<p>In the aforementioned study, 271 Finnish individuals were taken who were in the age group of 65-79 and when this study began, none of them had any symptoms of dementia. In the period of 7 years of follow up, 17 of these individuals developed Alzheimer’s disease. These were the individuals who were in the placebo group that is they were not administered vitamin B12.</p>
<p>In conclusion, it can be said that there is a definite link between vitamin B12 and AD, and that if taken regularly at old age, vitamin B12 can significantly lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.</p>
